1. Membership
a. Membership in the Harvard Business School Club of Philadelphia requires that the applicant be a graduate of HBS, by the definition from the school, which includes MBA’s, DBA’s and certain certificate programs.
b. Club committees can be composed only of club members.
2. Programs:
a. Programs require prior approval by the club Planning Officer before being posted. Please see proposed intake information sheet. All the requested information must be supplied before a program is approved. And each event will be summarized after the event. Please see requested follow-up information sheet.
The goal of programs is to service members and to encourage more HBS graduates to join the club and participate in programs and planning. Each program should be focused enough to attract at least 20 HBSPhilly Club members. Our goal is to provide an attractive range of programs throughout our area. If YOU have an idea for a program, please contact us.
b. Programs planned with other organizations: Most of our programs planned with other clubs are planned with various Harvard Clubs or other Ivy League clubs in the area. However, committees may plan programs with other organizations and each organization will list programs separately on their websites and each will contribute equally financially to the event.
c. Program materials: All programs presented under the auspices of the club shall be clearly labeled Harvard Business School Club of Philadelphia Program on their presentation material. Invited participants will have their own materials.
d. Solicitation of funds: Committees (both our committees and committees from other organizations) and program presenters may not solicit funds to support the programs using the Harvard Business School name or the Harvard Business School Club of Philadelphia name. This will be reserved for our Social Enterprise Initiative or a special fundraising event sanctioned by the President/Board. Otherwise we will dilute our fundraising ability.
e. Program fees: All fees will be a minimum of $15 less for HBSPHILLY club members than for non-members.
A Challenge From the Board: Outside of the PBCs, our oldest running program series, programs should be attractive to at least 20 club members, unless it is specifically a small group discussion program. We offer an attractive range of programs in a geographically diverse areas to better serve our membership. We plan on expanding this.
We hope to offer a PBC in the suburbs in the near future. The club officer lineup will be slightly modified to recognize our new goals. All of programs will now be listed under our Programs Officer. There will also be a three year term limit for anyone in any position. We want to make sure that all of our members have an opportunity to take an active part in our club’s activities.
Our Planning Officer will maintain the calendar and approve programs. Following the program, program presenters will submit a review of program goals and achievements; income and expenditures; number of member and non-member attendees. In that way we can keep improving our offerings.
Thank you all for your continued participation.
