Judy Spires is the Chief Executive Officer of Kings Super Markets, Inc., an upscale, gourmet and contemporary supermarket chain operating in the New York metropolitan area, predominantly northern New Jersey.
 
Prior to joining Kings, Judy was the President of Acme Markets, the Delaware Valley’s leading retail chain with 125 stores throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

Spires joined Supervalu in 2006 following the company’s acquisition of the premier properties of Albertsons.  Prior to becoming president of Acme, Spires served in a variety of positions, including president of the Albertsons Dallas/Fort Worth division and president of the Rocky Mountain division.  She served in several roles at Acme, including vice president of sales & advertising, vice president of administration, vice president of human resources, vice president of operations, vice president on integration and senior vice president of marketing & merchandising.

Spires’ dedication to customers, associates and the community has earned her both industry and local recognition.  She was named “2008 Person of the Year” by the Mid-Altantic Food trades Organization and one of the Top 50 Women in Grocery by Progressive Grocer magazine.  Spires also received the prestigious 2009 Paradigm Award from the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the La Salle University Leadership Award and the 2007 Outstanding Champion Award from the Network of Executive Women.
 
In the community, Spires serves on the board of trustees at La Salle University, Philadelphia, the executive board of the New Jersey Food Council and the board of Met-Pro Corporation.

Spires holds a Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master’s in business administration from LaSalle University.  She is also a graduate of Cornell University’s Food Executive Program, Ithaca, New York.


Our discussion will take place Friday June 4, 2010 in the Lincoln Memorial Room at the Union League, which is located at Broad & Sansom Streets in Center City. A light breakfast will be available beginning at 7:30 AM with our discussion starting at 8:00 AM and ending promptly at 9:00 AM. The event is free to Sponsors, Patrons, and PBC Members.
